Trollhattan

I was really tired last night, that only happens about 1 night in 3-4 weeks. I had nothing to do, so I went to sleep.....what a surprise o wake up and look at the clock and NOT see 5:30 am! I slept until 8:30! After the breakfast buffet, I got into the car, GPS programmed for Trollhattan, about 45 km away.
I have no idea what happened, but once I approached the city the GPS decided I needed to travel ANOTHER 45 km north of the city to see something....I decided that was silly.

I reprogrammed where I thought I wanted to go, but when the GPS told me I was at my location, there was NOTHING there!

Trollhattan is a beautiful city, near the Lake (Vanern) and has a series of lock and dams which are a part of the Gota canal system, These locks and dams were built in the 1800s and are still used today.
Trollhattan is also where one of the largest waterfalls is in Sweden....but the energy company has dammed it. Water is spectacularly released at regular intervals.....and today at 3pm would be one of these times.

After many wrong turns in town,   I finally found some of the old locks and saw a large sailboat go through one of them.

My friend Pam told me that her family came from this city. It is not at all surprising then that Pam and Chuck have always loved the water and boats. The main industry here had much to do with water, water management, and boats. It is most likely that Pam's ancestors also loved and worked on the water here.

It is a very rainy and dreary day today, and my raincoat and hat already returned to the states (accidentally) with my sister......so I am defenseless.

I located and toured the KanalMuseum (small and not too interesting) and then I located the building of the Energy company the runs the waterfall. I could see where the waterfall was going to happen, but it was now just noon so I needed something to do.

There was a small cable car ride going over the locks area and a restaurant on the other side, so I rode that. Great views even through the raindrops on the glass panel of the cable car,

The restaurant turned out to be a cafeteria filled with families, all with very young children. The children were all very well behaved. I bought a sandwich and rode the cable car back. By now it was raining pretty good, so I decided to skip the waterfall release and headed back to the hotel.

I am listening to the rain falling outside now and I am getting very sleepy once again....

I guess after 3 weeks of activities, I just need a day to wind down before it all starts up again.

Tomorrow I return to 'home base' in Gothenburg for a few days.
