As I travel south, I set my GPS destination for Södra Härene Kyrka. This is the church where My children's great great grandfather, Johannes Larsson, and his family attended services, were married, baptized and buried.
Actually, the original church was located across the highway from here but burned down in early 1900's. This new Chuch was built and consecrated in 1910, long after our relatives had left for America. I have the names of some who stayed and in the wet grass I searched the rows of graves for anything that seems to fit. But I did not find anything...
I drove back north a few kilometers to the village of Lekåsa, where Agda Wilhelmina Larson Peterson (My children's great-grandmother) was born, as well as her mother, Johanna Charlotta Andersdotter. I found some of the farms where they lived or where family lived.
Then, I spied a church steeple and went to search for the church.....along the way I found these friendly fellows
I found the Lekåsa Kyrka, and searched all of the grave markers for family names....I again found nothing and ended up with very wet and cold feet.We had found in other churchyards the same thing, nothing......It seems that once a family's grave are no longer tended by family members, the stones are removed and the gravesite is reused for another family. Records are kept in the church as to location, but there has never been anyone at any of these churches to ask.
And so now I am back at Carina's house.....just me and Alice here tonight.Johan and Carina will return here tomorrow, and then, I have no idea what is next.
When will your adventures book be published?
