Churches, Nature and a new Cousin

After a good night rest in our Scandic hotel and a tasty Swedish breakfast complete with herring of different varieties (which Jan did not touch) - Cousin Carina took us once more to see the sights in this area.  We started the day visiting two very old churches.  Granhult church is the oldest entirely preserved church in Sweden with parts of the structure dating 1220 AD with the high roof from the 13th century.  Truly amazing.  Also, we visited the red Parish Community House next to the church.

Next was the Dadesjo old church which was built in the 13th century (1220 AD).  The ceiling paintings are original paintings and a marvel to view.  While wandering the graveyard, we found a cross embedded in a tree as the tree grew around the cross.  Amazing to walk through.  Trying to imagine our ancestors worshiping within these walls.

Then we headed to the Kosta Boda glassworks.  Amazing works of glass art in the museum and for sale in the shops.  An amazing blue glass bar as well.

We stopped by a beautiful lake for a rest, picking blueberries nearby on our way to Carina's sister Berith home for a traditional  Swedish dinner and good conversation.

We hope you enjoy these photos!
