Europe vacation time has begun!

We thought Stockholm looked crowded yesterday, but today was at least twice as crowded!
On our last 1/2 day in Stockholm, we walked around the Gamla Stan one more time, taking new and different cobblestone streets that we had not yet explored... We visited the City Hall of Stockholm where the Nobel Prize ceremony takes place. We did not take the tour inside, but the outside and the grounds are open to all and quite beautiful. Many many tour buses were stopped here and visitors for many countries were enjoying the sights as well. As we left the area and crossed one of the many bridges, we spied this funny little boat!

We returned to the hotel to finish packing, check out, and meet up with Maria and Margareta once again.
It was our intention to watch the changing of the guard at the palace but as we approached the area, we began seeing tour buses, and more tour buses. tour guides of every nationality were leading their groups  around the Gamla Stan and after a while it was a little comical as we rested in a small courtyard and the groups followed each other in and out to see the TINY little statue of a small boy (maybe 6" tall) that was sitting on a box in the courtyard.....each tour guide explained the story of the little statue in the language of the group. As we sat there for about 5 minutes I think we saw at least 10 different groups. This I assume went on for many hours, but we moved on.

Lunch at a Chinese restaurant was nice and then we said our goodbyes to Maria and her mother. I (Barb) will return to this side of the country in a couple of weeks to visit with Maria again.

We did some shopping and walking around before gathering our things from the hotel and walking to the train station. At this time, we have  logged 8.5 miles and over 20,000 steps.

Once we reach Gothenburg we will walk to our apartment, just 10 minutes from the Central Station there, so we will certainly have more than 9 miles under our feet once we get settled there.

We have all day Thursday and Friday in the city of Gothenburg before  we say goodbye to Jan and once again move to new digs.
