Our hike through the forest took us across some boggy areas where boards had been neatly placed to be used as narrow walking bridges over the wet spots. Again the forest floor was thick with many layers of mosses and pine needles. Small blueberry bushes and tall grasses abound. We hiked to a small beautiful lake where we sat on a rock to take in the scenery.
Standing or sitting in one place too long, however, was not safe as there are billions of ants everywhere and these ants do sting if they can catch you! The ant hills are tall mounds of collected pine needles and the hills stand 3-6 feet tall!! Yes, that is what I said......3-6 feet tall.
Mosquitos and flies were the only other wildlife we saw on this hike. We were hoping to spy a moose, but no such luck (or possibly good luck?)
An early dinner of a delicious fish soup and tiramisu will be followed by Swedish waffles this evening.
This will be our last night at the summer house. We will be leaving the Seiberlich family to enjoy the rest of their holiday as we head back to Gothenburg tomorrow. Tom will leave Sweden the next day, heading to Barcelona Spain to meet up with his SFO family for a lovely family holiday. I will be continuing my adventure on my own, with some help from my newly found friends and relatives.
In the coming weeks, I will be visiting other parts of the country, seeing some of the places my family lived in the 1800's. There will be an excursion back to Denmark to visit the 'Louisiana Modern Art Museum' and many, many more fun things to come. I am currently only 1/2 way into my grand Swedish adventure!
