Bugs! Oh MY! - Skara and a long drive

The first night in this lovely old hotel, 2 bugs scampered across my legs and up my arm.....trooper that I am, I squashed them and forgot about it. When the same thing happened on night 2, I squashed 2 of them (of 4) and placed them into a drinking glass. In the morning while I was getting dressed, there was another one. I caught this one a placed him alive into the glass.

Not really wanting to cause a fuss, but feeling that the hotel management really needs to be aware, I brought the glass to the front desk as I was leaving for the day. There were a few people waiting to check out, or check-in, so I waited until all of that was finished before I approached the desk alone. I handed the glass to the front desk clerk and her eyes opened as big as saucers. She asked if these came from the toilet, and I told hey no, they were in my bed.....she immediately brought the bugs to the manager on duty, who came out to greet me and apologize. She said without my asking that, of course, I would not be paying for the room....I asked if they could please move me to another room and that was not a problem.

I wish I had taken a picture of the bugs, but I did not. They were about 1/2 an inch long and the body shape was a long oval. I did not observe them flying. No idea what they were, but they did not sting or bite. update: after communicating with Janice (Jan lives in Florida and knows her bugs) we both came to the conclusion that they may have been German Cockroaches!

So now I am on the top floor in a large double room! It also has a nice little sitting/reading nook.

.Interesting way to get an upgraded room, and a couple of free nights!

Today I headed out in the car to the town of Skara. It is a sweet town with beautiful cobblestone streets and a variety of very old and fairly newer buildings. There is a large Veterinary hospital that is ver old. It is now a museum, housed in the same building as the original hospital. I did not visit this museum.

The Skara Cathedral in the center of town, towering over everything else. The Cathedral dates back to the 12th century.

I did visit the Vastergotlands museum. It is here that my cousin, Carina, will be starting her new job next week. There are many items on display from the bronze and iron ages,  The museum covers nearly 10,000 years of the region's history. A display about the works of the artist, Agnes de Fumerie is great too. Around the grounds, there is an outdoor museum with over 30 buildings on display from around the area. It is set up to see what an old farming village would have looked like.

The above is a very large flat carved stone with the image of a well-dressed man and woman...possible a grave cover?
A small church, similar, but less decorated, than the ones we saw earlier in the trip.
I took a long ride in the countryside today, down long and narrow winding farm roads, through small villages along a beautiful lake. It was another good day in Sweden.
