Copenhagen- a Scandinavian city

Our transatlantic flight was uneventful, which is a good thing. Despite taking a small ambien, we both got very little sleep, 2 hours at the most, with light dozing for a couple more.

We transferred to the train, which delivered us to the central train station in Copenhagen city. Of course, when one arrived at the hotel, at 730am, it was unlikely that a room would be available, so they stored our bags and we went out walking....

And BOY did we walk! I logged 7.5 miles on the fitbit....18,000 steps!

It was a good thing we walked that much cause we also ate a little more than normal. But it all worked out!

It is now 10pm and it is STILL very light outside!!! And this is not nearly as far north as we will be in the next weeks.
Frederickskirke (The Marble Church) on the grounds of Amalienborg Castle, the current home of the Danish Royalty

Copenhagen City all with beautiful gold sculptures and details.

It was a beautiful morning for a ride on a boat ride on the canals of Copenhagen

Geodesic dome......interesting structure on the canal tour.

Barb and Jan, enjoying a lovely al fresco lunch on the edge of the canal.
 Beautiful buildings line the canal.

Many of these buildings date back to the 1600's

Rosenborg Castle (INCLUDING MOAT!) is surrounded by a massive park where picnicking Danes gather to lounge in the cool shade of the trees.

Copenhagen honored Hans Christian Anderson with this wonderful statue, located near the City Hall. The author is best known to us by his children's tales, The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, the Emperor's New clothes and many, many others.
We DID see the statue of the Little Mermaid in the harbor, but the crowds around it made it impossible to get a photo. Sorry.

In the morning, we will check out and take the train to Gothenburg Sweden ----after a Danish breakfast at the hotel and a walk around town again or who knows......maybe a bike ride? they all seem to ride bikes!
