Castle (Manor house) on the sea

Today we drove south again from Gothenburg to visit a Castle on the sea.

Tjolöholm Castle is a country house, built 1898-1904, in Halland, Sweden. It is located on a peninsula in the Kungsbacka Fjord on the Kattegat coast. Tjoloholm Castle was designed in the Arts and Crafts style by architect Lars Israel Wahlmann.
The family who built this stately home originally came from Scotland. The name was Dixon. Mr Dixon died before the home was completed and his wife died at sea 2 years after moving in. They had one daughter and she lived in the home and raised her 4 boys here.

We were not allowed to take photos inside the home. There was also an exhibition inside the home, displaying the garments worn in the Hollywood movie, Elizabeth I, starring Cate Blanchett.

(The movie was NOT filmed here, but the fashion of the house was Elizabethan

The beautifully coifed bushes leaned towards the house from all the years of wind from the sea.

We came home to a fabulous lunch of Swedish pancakes topped with ice cream and strawberry sauce!

In the afternoon, we went to the local Flea market, a favorite spot for Carina to find interesting things. Jan found a few treasures also, but I came out empty-handed,

It has been raining off and on most of the day, so we are hoping for clear skies tomorrow.
